Boat walked over to her at the window and put a hand on her shoulder. He was aware he had hurt her feelings by doubting her. After all that she had been through, the last thing she needed was a jealous fit from him. He had suffered too. If he had confronted her earlier, all that pain and anguish he felt would have been avoided.
“Esenam, I’m truly sorry. All I’m asking for is your forgiveness and a chance to make it up to you. I’ve come to the realization that I cannot live without you. Please say something. Can I see that magical sparkle in your eyes I love so much?” Esenam smiled a bit.
“You’ve hurt me deeply, Yaw. I love you and that’s the only reason I’m giving you a second chance. I want you to promise me one thing though.”
“Anything you want, my love. I’ll do anything to have you for myself.”

“Promise me that it wouldn’t happen again and if you are not sure about something you would always ask me.”
“I promise with all my heart; it will never happen again.” Esenam leaned backwards against him with her arms folded in front of her. Boat wrapped his hands around her waist and held on tight. They were both glad to have overcome that hurdle in their relationship.
“Esenam, will you marry me?” Esenam turned to look at him. She was not sure she heard right. Boat could see from her face she was wondering if she heard right.
“Yes, Esenam, will you be my wife?” Esenam was excited. The thought of becoming Boat’s wife was her heart’s most ardent desire. She loved him with all her being.
“Yes, Boat, I’ll be honoured to be your wife.” Boat was elated. Esenam just made him the happiest man on earth. He brought out the tiny box he had been carrying in his pockets for weeks and gave it to Esenam. She unwrapped it slowly and gasped with delight at the exquisite ring inside. Tears of joy form in her eyes.
“God, this is beautiful. Oh Boat; this is simply…” Esenam hugged him. Boat seized the opportunity and kissed her. He told her he had been carrying the ring for about two weeks. He also explained that he was going to give it to her the night he saw her with Akwasi. Boat took the ring from her and slid it on her finger.
“This is a symbol of my love and promise to you that I’ll spend every day of my life showing you how much I love and appreciate you. Please wear it always to remind you of my undying love and promise to you.”
“I will! I promise to love you forever.” Boat and Esenam stayed locked in each other’s arms for a long time. They could hear each other’s heartbeats in a rhythm that signified love at its pinnacle.
