We were watching TV now over the noodles.
“Really. Why didn’t you tell me until now? When is it?”
“Okay, let me see…” She continued to tap her bottom lip with the back of her fork while trying to figure out if she would be free on Friday.
“I think I should be able to get back from work early on Friday, we can go and shop together, so we can get you something pretty to wear.”
That week from Monday to Friday was hectic just as I predicted, even I had to leave work late on Friday, the day Benedicta and I agreed to meet, to shop for my dress.

“What about this one?” I asked holding up a red dress.
“Nah.” She shook her head while she continued with checking the other dresses.
“This one?” I held another one up.
“Jesus Hazel, are you kidding me right now? We are talking about a séxy party dress here.”
“A séxy party dress!” I laughed.
“You should wear something that will make you look hot…” She gave me a look.
“Are you asking me that? Oh my!” She gasped.
“Look at this one.” She held up a white dress.
“Wow! I’m so buying this one.”
We left after paying.
It was already dark outside by the time we left the mall.
“I hope you are not having any problem at the company.” My mum asked before taking a sip of her champagne.
“No, everything is going on fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.Mum, it’s good to see you again after such a long time. Let me see… Two years?”
“Forgive me son, but you know how Fred can be. He always thought I was making up excuses to come to New York to see your dad. His level of insecurity is just so high.”
“You are not having any problem with your dad are you?”
“As if. He had always being my problem.”
“I wonder when he would stop being such a d!ckhead.” She looked melancholic.
“What is it this time around though?”
“He wants me to get married this year.”
Her brows knitted at my words.
“Get married? But you are not seeing anyone. However I feel like he is right this time around though.” She said in a small voice.
“Mum!” I called.
“I mean you are not getting any younger and the year is just starting, you can start working on finding someone you love and can get married to, because I don’t ever want you to get married to someone you don’t love.”
“He actually gave me a deadline, in two months time, he would like to meet the person I will like to marry and that we should get married as soon as possible or else, he would demote me from being the CEO.”
“What is his reason for you to get married this year?”
“It’s just because of what happened last year.”
“Is this about the blackmail which went viral about a pregnant lady who claimed that you were the father of her unborn child?”
“Yes. He said if I was married the company wouldn’t have had to deal with issues like that.”
“You know, he is still got the brain of a chicken. Even married men can fall a victim of that. Anyway, what are you planning to do about it?”
“Nothing.” I said simply.
“You don’t care about him demoting you?”
“Not the tiniest bit, being demoted is not the end of the world for me, you know that.”
“No, you can’t do that. You know what? I might actually have an idea on what we can do, although it might be a little selfish.” She expected me to say something to that but when I didn’t, she continued.
“A contract marriage. What do you think?”
“No way am I doing that, Mum.”
“You will only be married for some time, that way you can save your position and you can divorce later on but before then, you would have found someone you love and would like to get married to.”
