The Replacement Girl Episode 5

“This is a 56 million naira car, and you are going to pay for what you’ve done” The man that hit us said as he quickly brought out his phone from his pocket, I knew he was going to call the police to come and arrest us so I decided to talk to him since uncle Habib was practically shocked.

“We are sorry, but you’re the one that hit us sir” I said.

He turned to me with a glare, it was actually a glare but it touched my soul pretty hard. I didn’t even know when my jaw dropped in amazement. He was the most handsome man I’ve ever seen!

“The girl is right…”

“Yes, the girl is absolutely right!”

The crowd interfered but he continued to operate his mobile phone anyways.

“This isn’t fair, man!”

“To hell with Zaki yoghurt!”

The last statement made him to pause and start looking around the crowd.

“Zaki bottle-water must go!”

“To hell with Zaki yoghurt and bread!”

“D–n Zaki Juice!”

The people kept shouting… I didn’t even know what they meant by their words but somehow, the words had a great impact on the handsome man. He ran back to his broken car and drove away.

Uncle Habib heaved a sigh and thanked the people. “Get back into the car…” he said to me. Thus, we drove away.

“Who was that man? Why was the crowd shouting ‘Zaki’, is that his name?” I queried looking outside the car to see if I could somehow see him around.

“That boy?” Uncle Habib cleared his throat and continued. “I don’t really know much about him but he’s from Zaki Family, they owned the Zaki Juice, Zaki Yoghurt, Zaki Bread, Zaki Bottle-water, Zaki Pasta and many more”

“Wow!” I blurted out.

“His name is Ahmad Jaafar Zaki, he lives in Peace Garden with his wife. That’s all I know about him” Uncle Habib added as he switched-on the radio. He didn’t want me to ask more question regarding the man. Well, who wouldn’t like to know more about such a handsome man? He was like an Arab prince from the middle-east, and he so much looked to be in his late 20s.

“Thank you” I said smiling.

“Why thanking me?” Uncle Habib puzzled as he made a quick U-turn.

“For everything!” I said.

Thus, he shook his head with a smile and quickly increased the volume of the radio in order to enjoy a county song transmitted by a local radio station.

My eyes shines on!
Yes, my eyes shines on,
My eyes shines on!
Just stay with me,
My eyes shines on!
You’re my love,
My eyes shines on!

We arrived at his house some minutes after 7 in the evening. I was so bored and exhausted. His wife, Aunty Aminah was so happy to see me, same as his kids, Farid and Faridah. We ate dinner together and, thus, prayed before Aunty Aminah and I had a long discussion concerning what brought me over. She wasn’t happy how I chose handwork over schooling. She tried to convince me to change my mind but I stood adamant. Thus, she shook her head and said;

“Since that’s what you want I will take you to one of my friends to learn how to brew, she has a big restaurant”

“Brew wine?” I puzzled.

“No, tea and coffee” she smiled.

Well, that wasn’t actually bad so far as I could earn money to carter for my personal needs.

“Thank you so much, Aunt Aminah” I said beaming. Thus, we bade each other goodnight.

The day wasn’t bad for me at all, the only problem was the thought of that handsome man we met – it kept lingering in my mind. I wanted to m——–e in order to free my mind from it but I wasn’t the only one sleeping in the room I lodged in. I was with Faridah, so I forced myself to sleep. Luckily, I had a wet dream and I was so contented.
