ELENA

We were on our way to the restaurant and of course Damon was driving. Catherine made me sat in the front right across from him while she took the passenger seat.

It was a little uncomfortable and I could feel his eyes on me the entire time. I look out the window and avoided his piercing gaze.

After about ten minutes, we arrived at the restaurant. I opened the door and got down faster than the speed of light. I need to keep as much distance as I can between the two of us. It is after all the only way to assure the end of my victious love cycles with my boss. He seemed to notice but said nothing.

We got into the restaurant taking different seats while of course I sat farthest away from him. I heaved a sigh of relief while checking the menu for something to order.

“So, Damon…. How’s the contract with you and Van industries?”

The table fell into silence. The topic was sensitive for the both of us. Tomorrow, I would have to go over there again and talking about now just makes it more awkward.

“It’s fine actually, going really well.”

He responded with a smile which didn’t reach the corner of his eyes in the slightest bit.

“Let’s just eat.”

Damon added but I couldn’t even decide on what to order.

“Should I help you?”

He asked referring to me.

“No, I’m fine.”

I dismised harshly. Catherine noticed but simply smiled looking away. I picked the first thing on the menu so he wouldn’t have another excuse to speak to me.

After about two minutes, the waiter brought our food to the table.

“Thank you.”

I commended smiling at him.

“Don’t you have some other table to serve.”

Damon barked rudely. I glared at him and waiter bowed his head obviously embarassed.

“I’m sorry I have to take this call.”

Catherine excused herself leaving us both.

“Have you gone out of your mind! Why would you talk to someone like that.”

I scolded fuming in anger.

“He was staring at you and I only said the truth.”

He responded curtly.

“You’ve lost your mind. I need some air.”

I dropped my forks in my untouched food and got up moving towards the rest room.

“On one hand dinners with Van never went this way, they always ended with us making out so i guess that’s a plus.”

I giggled sarcastically trying to sprinkle water on my face.

“I’ll just tell Catherine I’m under the weather or something and go home. I shouldn’t have said yes in the first place.”

I washed my face with my hands and stared at the mirror before taking a deep breath.

“Time to go.”

With that in mind, I took slow strides out of the restroom shutting the door behind me.

“Are you okay?”

Damon asks right in my face.

“Yes. I’m fine but I really should get going I’ll see you tomorrow Mr O’Cornner.”

“We’re back to being formal now?”

He asks preventing me from leaving.

“Yes as it should be.”

I responded keeping a straight face.

“Formal people don’t kiss each other at restaurants.”

“H-huh.”

I stuttered and before I could try and process those words, his lips were on mine.

“What were you saying a few seconds ago?”

My annoying inner voice mocked.
