It’s about 4 years now Adoley and Nana welcomed Oko, their only son into this world. Oko as young as he was had a lot of familiar features with his father. Adjoa, the adopted child was excelling in education. She was a very intelligent girl coming out first in almost all the subjects taught in her school. Indeed, the street was never her home.  She was a very brilliant girl and Nana and his wife were very proud of accepting her into their home.  They knew Adjoa would  be a good influence on their child.
Nana’s work was becoming a little demanding as he kept spending more hours at work than his usual working time.  Adoley on the other hand was not the domestic type. Everything changed when Fafa betrayed her trust. She would usually spend time with her whenever  she was at home. She had already enrolled her Oko in school and was finding it hard in dealing with boredom when the kids were away at school.
Just when she was settling in, she had a very lucrative job offer from an unknown person, a man to be precise. As to how the guy got her number, no one knew. She was too pleased with the offer that she didn’t even bother to ask. Now her problem was with her husband, Adoley knew very well that Nana would not allow her work considering her responsibilities over home.
Adoley however wanted to talk things through with her husband; she was very determined to persuade her husband to allow her take this offer. That will even ease the financial load Nana, she thought.
Nana was really in difficult times as his company was not making much profit as was expected. This contributed in him working late. He needed to keep the family going and that required earning more.
He arrived home that very late to surprisingly find his wife still awake and waiting for him. He found it surprising as he usually comes to meet his wife asleep anytime he came home. He knew Adoley understood  the situation at work and even if anything she would have called him over the phone. To find her waiting for him at this time of the night meant there was something wrong somewhere.
“Hey Dear, are you ok?” Nana asked
“Why aren’t you in bed” He continued.
“You look tired, your supper is on the table.” Adoley said.
That was a very smart way of ignoring Nana’s question and this even made Nana to be more suspicious.
“Is everything alright, you are acting strange” Nana asked again.
“I’m fine, just have something to discuss with you.” Adoley answered.
“Ok, that was really obvious, anyway I’m all ears” He said.
Adoley began telling him about the call she had that morning concerning the job offer. Nana seemed a bit distracted, he was looking away while Adoley was talking to him. His actions however frustrated Adoley that she couldn’t bare it any longer than to burst out.
“Nana, look at me, am talking to you for Christ sake” She shouted.
“I’m sorry, but how come Adjoa’s door is opened at this time?” He asked.
The door to Adjoa’s room was widely opened, this got their attention and Adoley had to excuse herself to go and close the door.
Upon getting to Adjoa’s door, Adoley noticed that Adjoa was not in her room as she expected. She went inside the room and went to the wash room to find out if she was there but Adjoa was nowhere to be found. Adoley began looking for her from room to room but it appeared that Adjoa was not even in the house.
She rushed back to where her husband was seated to inform him of Adjoa’s sudden disappearance.
“What do you mean, she is not in her room, didn’t you see her after school today? Nana asked alarmed.
“She came home alright, she even helped me prepare supper. Then I asked her to shower Oko and later went to my room and came here to wait for you” Adoley said looking and sounding very depressed. “That was the last time I saw her”
Where could she have gone to? Nana and Adoley kept looking for her all around the house but couldn’t find her. There was no sign of forced entry or what so ever. That meant she left the house on her own accord. This even made them more worried, it came as a surprise to them since they knew Adjoa was a very well behaved girl, how could she leave the house without telling them at that time of the night? There must be something wrong somewhere. They were just confused not knowing what to do or who to even call to ask of the whereabouts of Adjoa.
They resulted in looking for her round the neighborhood that night but there was no sign of her. Adoley didn’t take it easy on this one, she was worried to the extent that she couldn’t just settle in the chair she was seated on when they came back from the search. She moved from one place to the other in the room looking very frustrated.
Nana tried calming her down, but the more he tried the more Adoley acted up. That night was the longest night in their entire life after they got married.
They had no sleep, they just sat there hoping that Adjoa will eventually show up. This continued till the following day. Now they had no option than to call the police to inform them of Adjoa’s disappearance.
That was the very moment they heard the doorbell ring. Adoley quickly rushed to the door with Nana to see who it was. And to their amazement there stood Adjoa and Fafa.
To be continued.
