Effiakwanta Government Hospital Spent Ghc52.000 To Renovate Elevator

The Effiakwanta Government Hospital is unable to use elevators they spent GH52,000 to renovate because of the frequent power outages.

Patients seeking medical attention at the hospital are compelled to climb the five storey facility in pain because the elevators cannot be used.

The hospital’s medical director Dr Paul Kwao Ntodie says they are afraid to use the elevators because of the frequent power cuts.

According to him, they will need a voltage stabilizer in order to use the elevators but they do not have the funds to purchase one.

The voltage stabilizers are expected to cost GH104,000 but Dr Ntodie says the amount is above the hospital’s means.

He said the elevators will only be used when there is a voltage stabilizer to secure it from breaking down as the load shedding continues.

Severe power generation challenges have forced Volta River Authority (VRA) Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) –producers, transmitters and distributors respectively –to start a “temporary load management” exercise since March last year.

Businesses, homes and many industries have complained bitterly about the power crisis that is showing any sign of ending any time soon.
