GABLA GODWIN AND AKAKPO ELIKEM

Up the hills of my mind  And down the valleys of my brain,  my thoughts run a race…. A race to the land of yesterday

Yesterday where the man is a boy  Memories flood my brain like  the famous KETA lagoon.  A journey to the land of yesterday

A race from this sprinter to the old winter  Where the anticipation for this feelings was like the watchman’s longing for daylight.

For it will be then that we will make merry at night.  My tiny legs and arms  jumped in rhythmic patterns  to the honey-sweet carols

The bliss was all fun  “Knockouts” I buried in my hands and like a soldier on parade,  “Fii kpo!” Was the sound…..

So the things we do got no pun  Then clapping of hands  Crowned the joy  Loud screams sealed it….  But that was yesterday…

Today,  The boy is a man,  My mind seals those thoughts  What would my seeds feed on?  What shall they wear?  My thoughts are grown….  My thoughts can’t joke anymore…  My thoughts wear scary looks…

So, as they scamper around in joy,  As carols ring in their mouths,  As they breathe out laughter,  The only thing left within me;  Memories….  Memories…  And more memories…

The boy is now a man  The season remains the same;  Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you all.
