One of the most famous voices on the airwaves in Kumasi, a writer, editor, and also a Salsa and Kizomba Dance Instructor since the advent of the private radio station is no doubt that Prince Owusu Banahene Sarkodie known as DJ PORT AU PRINCE currently with VISION1 Fm. He has had a good time with a radio that he merely mentioning of his name, it brings nostalgic memory as one of the few ones who have been able to hold their own to date since his days with Kapital Radio and Ultimate Radio in 2008.
One thing which is clear during my visit to Kumasi is the fact that almost all the radio “giants” in the Garden City had something to do with Kapital Radio before joining other stations and Port Au Prince is not an exception. He started as a producer on the show KIDDY TIME on Kapital Radio before feathering his radio skills at K-poly and to Radio Lynk where he was trained by one presenter William.
But to me I think “Lexis Bill and Erastus Asare Donkor’ were the ones who actually introduced me to the radio thing and I owned them a great debt of gratitude” he told Weekly Fylla Entertainment Newspaper
Port Au Prince as he is popularly called has a good deal of air time and anytime he is on air he magically woos his listeners to his side until it’s all over. Currently, he hosts a JAZZ show called REFLECTION in English from 12 to 4 am
During this period Port AU Prince could play as much jazz as he can within a given period of time and when the text lines are activated listeners are allowed to text into the program to tell him the exact number of songs he played and whoever gets them correct is given a prize.
“When I left Kapital Radio to Radio Lynk something happened, I was allowed to produce the morning show and shockingly I excelled and I was given my own slot” he revealed. He continued
“I am not eluded about the fact that it is by the grace of God that I am able to execute all my assignments with proficiency”
Asked how long he hopes to remain on radio, Prince who never stops smiling and the lady’s man said, he had not thought about leaving anytime soon but was swift to add that he will like to own a recording studio to help those who want to be in the music industry
The cute young presenter is a quintessential Ashanti boy. He was born in Ash Town in the Ashanti Region to Actress Miss. Victoria Owusu Banahene and Mr. Ernest Boateng of Electricity Company Of Ghana (E.C.G) Offenso Branch Manager, before he got himself into NVTI collage in Kumasi, he further studied Political Science and Information Studies at the Premier University, the University Of Ghana, with a first class.
He pursued his radio training at Kumasi Polytechnic school where he was taken through the rudiments of radio presentation, by Willian Nana Baffour.. he has also been featured in many Reality TV Shows like Close Up Salsa Fiesta, All You Need Is Love, K K TV Valentina night, etc
Prince is single yet unavailable, He admires international DJs like Qbert USA Dr.Faulikx of the UK, and Walt Babylove, the countdown of the USA.
