Businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome has promised to refund by the end of the year, the GH¢51.2 million judgement debt paid him by the state.

According to his lawyer, Mr Osafo Buabeng, his client had had two meetings with the Attorney General (AG) and Minister of Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Opong and modalities were being set out on how the money would be paid.

He therefore gave the assurance that the money would be paid by the end of 2015.

The Supreme Court Tuesday31st March 2015 gave the AG the all-green to pursue and retrieve the money from Mr Woyome.

The AG had filed an application at the Supreme Court to seek direction on how to retrieve the money.

The Supreme Court in July 2014 unanimously ordered Woyome to refund GHȻ51.2 million to the state. According to the court, Woyome got the money out of unconstitutional and invalid contracts between the state and Waterville Holdings Limited in 2006 for the construction of stadia for CAN 2008.

It held that the contracts upon which Woyome made and received the claim were in contravention of Article 181 (5) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, which requires such contracts to be approved by Parliament.
