Suspected EBOLA Case In Kumasi KNUST Hospital

A suspected Ebola case at the University Hospital of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is causing fear and panic at the hospital and among the university community.

The suspect, a man from Sierra Leone, who had reported at the hospital in the late hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2014 to visit his wife at the Osei Tutu II Medical Complex of the hospital reportedly recorded extremely high temperature.

Speaking to myJCR News, a staff of the hospital who prefers to remain anonymous indicated that the man later passed on bloody stool that raised an alarm. The Medical Doctor on duty ordered the man and all personnel who had come into contact with the man to be quarantined.

The man is believed to have arrived in the country from Sierra Leon about 4 days ago because the wife had been admitted at the University Hospital for unrelated medical condition.

A blood sample of the patient has been sent to Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) for confirmation.

The medical laboratory of the hospital where tests were performed on the patient’s blood had been closed down and the hospital temporarily closed at the time of filing this report.
