The One I Love

Credit Temitope Daniel

Only once in your life, I truly believe, you find someone who can completely turn your world around. You tell them things that you’ve never shared with another soul and they absorb everything you say and actually want to hear more.

You share hopes for the future, dreams that will never come true, goals that were never achieved and the many disappointments life has thrown at you. When something wonderful happens, you can’t wait to tell them about it, knowing they will share in your excitement.

They are not embarrassed to cry with you when you are hurting or laugh with you when you make a fool of yourself. Never do they hurt your feelings or make you feel like you are not good enough, but rather they build you up and show you the things about yourself that make you special and even beautiful.

There is never any pressure, jealousy or competition but only a quiet calmness when they are around. You can be yourself and not worry about what they will think of you because they love you for who you are.

The things that seem insignificant to most people such as a note, song or walk become invaluable treasures kept safe in your heart to cherish forever.

Memories of your childhood come back and are so clear and vivid it’s like being young again. Colours seem brighter and more brilliant. Laughter seems part of daily life where before it was infrequent or didn’t exist at all.

A phone call or two during the day helps to get you through a long day’s work and always brings a smile to your face. In their presence, there’s no need for continuous conversation, but you find you’re quite content in just having them nearby.

Things that never interested you before become fascinating because you know they are important to this person who is so special to you. You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do.

Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible.

You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile. Your only hope and security is in knowing that they are a part of your life.

This is how it started

Episode 1

Tolani was smiling, staring at Stella and Favour with his playing cards well covered up. What else could make him happier, that time than playing with Stella and her friend, Favour? At least, they just finished their tests and Tolani had come to Stella’s room to play cards with her and discuss with her about his traveling.

He didn’t know how to start the discussion so he felt playing, at first would be the introduction to his discussion with her. He had a black bag on him, as he played with the ladies. He had been leading the game on point and had been laughing at the ladies because he told them earlier that he was going to win.

He scratched his head using his index finger. “Stella, I came because of something important.”

Stella who had been laughing raised her head and gazed at him. He seemed serious that time, what important thing had he come for? If Tolani spoke seriously, he meant every word from his mouth.

Her impression and expression showed she was ready to hear what he came for without asking what it was. Favour also paused, should she stand for the couple or remain there? What if it was something secretive they wish to discuss? She kept on pondering.

“I want to travel, Dad said he wants to send me to Manchester; where his brother lives, to complete my education.” He said.

“That’s a nice idea, but he should have done that earlier than now.” Stella was glad.

“Wao, congrats.” Fave smiled.

“What’s the happiness and well wishes all about? Do I look like I’ve accepted his offer to leave? Why on earth can’t I stay in my country to study like others? I refused.” He hissed as he took away his face.

“You refused? Large percentage of students here wish to travel abroad to study, if I have that chance do you think I’ll wait here? Yes, you may not like it but you have to go!” Stella spoke with passion and dropped the playing cards.

Tolani dropped his cards too. “I wish to leave, but not without you. If you don’t go to Manchester, I won’t likewise. But Dad is not ready to send you with me and I won’t leave likewise.” he said.

“Because of me? Tolani!” She called his name faintly.

“Yes now, I can’t imagine leaving you all alone. Your dad is on the sick bed, you also know where your mother is… I can’t!”

“If it’s because me then… I’m no longer interested in this relationship.” Stella stuttered as she was downcast.

“Stella!” Favour cut in.

“I’m for real, I’m not interested.” She repeated herself.

“Are you out of your mind?” Favour packed the cards she had with her together and gazed at Stella.

“I’m not, I’m serious! Let us depart if it will cause you not to go.”

“St…stella..” Tolani stammered, blinking.

Stella still couldn’t raise her head properly. She didn’t want to be the mistake in his life, she wanted the best for him. “This is not a joke.” She said again.

“Are you really for real?” Tolani asked again.

“I’m serious.” She spoke, looking really serious.

Tolani was taut. He stood up gently and picked his bag. He gazed at Stella and Favour again before he removed his hand bead and dropped it on the table. He was tight-lipped and wan, he left the room without returning.

♡Four years after – Present.

“I’ve grown, I’ve seen a lot, I’ve witnessed trials, was born into abject poverty, still father worked as a hotel cleaner before he was accused of stealing a golden wristwatch which the owner forgot inside the car.

He was detained, tortured until he was found innocent, free from artificiality. This landed him into a terrible sickness, no one could help, not even those who accused him of stealing or the hotel in question.

Tolani tried his best before he finally left for Manchester, then it resulted into sickness. Mother, a rare gem on earth. She worked as a maid in a rich man’s house after my father died, even with her age.

A woman that has given birth to two children, one died at the age of seven when he was sick and there was nothing to be done because there were no money and me, twenty-five years of age.

The woman who has given birth to a child of my age, is fourty-eight years, still a maid in a rich man’s house. She did it for me to excel, I passed out, made it but there’s still no job to do.

”Stella dropped her handkerchief.

“I deliberately kept quiet for you to speak, express yourself and remember the pasts. As you know, you are still a lot better than people out there. Though, you may have a very sad story, everything about you may be weird but you’ll make it someday also.” Favour said.

“This is our usual chorus, usual anthem but nothing has ever changed has it?” She questioned.

Favour heaved a sigh and kept her head low. She was born into a polygamous family of four wives and eleven children. Her mother was the first wife that was sent out of her father’s house because of barreness. It was after two months it happened she knew she was carrying a baby.

At first, she kept mute and didn’t want to get her husband informed since he didn’t even love her again too. She was persuaded by her mother who eventually took her to his house and told him her daughter, Favour’s mother was pregnant.

It was already the third month, who would believe she wasn’t telling a lie? She was refused and since then, her mother had been catering for her till she gave birth. There was no one to offer help, Favour’s mother also strived hard to make sure her daughter was well eduacted so that she wouldn’t suffer like she did.

Tolani just returned back to home, two months back. He was the one his father sent to head the headquarters of his companies. Throughout his stay in Manchester, he always remembered Stella. He did pray that she should be fine, as well as her parents.

He had tried all means to get in touch with her again but all was up to no avail. He had tried all he could but none of his attempts was able to locate where Stella was. Yes, he still loved her and the love hadn’t faded. He wished to know if she hadn’t given her heart to someone else or gotten married.

He called the phone numbers he knew but none went through. He visited the house he knew they were living in before his depature but still she wasn’t there despite his difficulties and obstacles.

He disciplined himself to the extent that he didn’t give his heart to anyone else because of Stella. He wished to know if she kept the bead he gave to her because he knew Stella did cherish whatever given to her to keep. Tolani wished to know if she just broke up with him because she wanted him to excel or she meant it.

He had imagined how she could be, where she worked and what she looked like. He wished his wishes could come true so that he could set his eyes on her again.

Will Tolani find her still single? Lets wait for episode 2………

Rapper Kwaw Kese has reacted to vision by gospel musician Joyce Blessing that he will soon be doing the work of God. Kwaw Kese speaking to Kwasi Aboagye on Neat FM on Tuesday said what the ‘Nyame Agyuaama’ singer said is not bad but for now, he loves the hiplife he is doing.

Kwaw Kese answered negative when asked if the musician informed him about the vision.

“There is nothing wrong with doing the work of God and if God touches you then it means that you are very special and important person to God and it means that God has really blessed me. So if God calls me to do His work I will gladly do it but for now what I know is what I am doing and that is what I do best which is Hiplife music. However, if the work of God comes my way along the line I will be very happy because not everybody gets the opportunity to do the work of God”.

“So the vision she had about me is a positive vision but for now I am doing what I do best”.

World’s Strongest Dwarf’ To Wed 6ft 3in Tall Transgender

A 4ft 4in tall dwarf who claims to be “the strongest man in the world” has revealed he hopes to break down further barriers by marrying his 6ft 3in transgender girlfriend. Anton Kraft has smashed records for weightlifting by being able to lift four times his own weight, but the determined 52-year-old has told how his greatest achieving was bagging his glamorous new love.

The bodybuilder, who is originally from Denmark but now lives in Florida, said he instantly fell for China Bell, despite the fact she was originally born a man.
He said: “We used to walk against the current, but the current has changed. “Florida is one the states that have same-sex marriage – and both of us are basically the same sex.

“I enjoy dating a transgender woman because she was born a male and is doing the utmost to become as feminine as possible. “I find that most women born as women do not spend as much time on their appearance.”

The couple has been dating for six months and China told how she found her new love irresistible. She said: “I think Anton’s weightlifting is so sexy because I think he’s sexy – when you hold a world heavyweight title, that means a lot.

“I’ve never dated a 4ft 4in guy and I was just so curious. I’m glad I gave him a chance because he’s an amazing person. “I’m different and he’s different, and where we’re from, different is good.” The sculpted figure that China finds so attractive, was earned by Anton through 10 years of hard work power-lifting.
He claims to have the highest bench record of all time for his weight class, but it seems he may have pushed his body too far. In his pursuit of ultimate power he says he has ‘technically died’ five times before being resuscitated – ranging from drowning to falling out of a window.

Doctors also fear he may have a heart attack if he keeps up his all-action lifestyle – but Anton isn’t budging. He said: “Some people say that what I do is weakness, or micro-man syndrome – that I want to do something that I am not built for, to prove something. “But I believe there’s only one winner – second is first loser. Second doesn’t count. “Overall, I am one of the five strongest guys in the world, regardless of height and weight. “And I am the only guy in the world who has ever benched four-times his body weight.” And when it comes to the future – Anton’s ambitions are as big as his weightlifting abilities.
He said: “I want to break another world record, but it’s up to my physique to decide that. “I may also go down on one knee and ask for China’s hand – because I think her name would look so good with my last name. “Right now I feel like I’m the luckiest man on the planet – we are all happy and good and I have never felt better than I do now – and that would be thanks to China.”

The luxurious Life of Sakawa Boys

0

It is 7 p.m.,loud music is booming from a house a stone throw away. Young men and women dressed in tight fitting jeans or multi-coloured robes twist and turn to the rhythms of Shatta wale’s hit song “Megye wo girl”, which literally means “I will take your woman”.

Not far away, a group of Christians have pitched their camp in another house, preaching, dancing and singing.

It is Saturday night at Kasoa Galilea, a sprawling community in the Awutu Senya District in the Central Region, and the noise from the two camps is a weekly routine.

But between the two, the faithful in the church end their worship by 9 p.m., leaving behind the rather loud party that travels deep into the night.

Usually characterised by the popping of expensive champagnes, it is a party whose attendants may not be more than 30 years but many of them come with expensive automobiles such as the Range Rover, Lexus, Honda Crosstour, Venza and Infiniti.

Don’t rack your brains; this is not the gathering of young business executives. It is the congregation of young men and women with expertise in cyber fraud, known in local parlance as ‘sakawa’—the fusion of Internet fraud with “voodooism.”

Being in their midst will overwhelm you, especially with respect to their lifestyle.

As young as these men are, they live in houses which the salary of an average worker cannot afford and drive posh cars one wonders how they manage to fuel daily.

The lifestyle of these young men can only be compared to that of business tycoons.

They use the latest electronic gadgets and wear fashionable designer clothes and shoes. The amount some of these young men spend on clothes, perfumes and electronic gadgets such as phones and laptops can be used to purchase a three-bedroom flat without a sweat.

Genesis of Sakawa
‘Sakawa’ is a terminology derived from Hausa, a widely spoken language in West Africa, which literally means “putting inside”.

It emerged in the late 90s as some youngsters who were regarded as highly intelligent and smart started spending time on the Internet. These young men resided mainly in the Zongo communities of Nima, Mamobi and Newtown in the Greater Accra Region.

At that time, it involved the use of credit cards to do online shopping which were shipped directly into the country and sometimes through partners overseas.

The ‘sakawa’ trend seemed to have gained more grounds following the involvement of Nigerians in the country. New ideas and modus operandi originated from the trend, which is now termed simply as “browse”.

Men pose as women and chat with unsuspecting male victims online under the pretence of being in love with them. They go ahead to demand huge sums of money and gifts from their “client”.

Others also resort to business transactions in gold dust, timber, securities and oil in which they use forged documents from government agencies to lure their victims.

These activities have sprung to major areas, especially in the southern sector of the country. Most of the youth see it as a lucrative business which does not require any hard work.

New trend
Another modus operandi, which is voodooism, has been added to the phenomenon. The youth engage in occultism and seek other spiritual assistance to facilitate their activities while others resort to blood money.

Those who engage in occultism are said to perform certain rituals, including sacrificing a family member and offering parts of their body for sacrifices.

Some of the human parts allegedly offered for sacrifices include left fingers and the right toe.

With the left finger, the Sakawa boy or girl is instructed to wear a ring and never to take it off. If the person takes the ring off without the necessary rituals, he or she will go mad or in the extreme case, die.

Those who opt for the right toe can never wear shoes again till they die. Most of them, I gathered, preferred their left finger to their right toe.

These sacrifices are in stages, with the majority instructed to sleep in coffins every day at midnight for a month. Others chew live insects such as cockroaches and reptiles like lizards.

A person’s level of sacrifices determines how rich and wealthy he or she becomes.

Waiting Period
One would think that after performing all these sacrifices, the money would begin to flow for these young people, but that is not the case.

Most of them have to endure seasons of waiting to see their sacrifices bearing fruit. This, however, depends on one’s luck and level of sacrifices.

Some of them, unfortunately, have to wait for more than a year. This means that they have to depend on friends and family for assistance.

Others receive support and assistance from their mentor “Sakawa men” who have already made it.

In an interview with one of the Sakawa boys (name withheld), he narrated how hard it was for him to wait for eight months before his rainy days began.

“After I performed my rituals, which involved chewing live maggots for three nights, I was instructed not to bath for a week. I also slept in a dark room for a month,” he said.

Although he did not disclose to this reporter how the money started coming, he mentioned $53,000 as the first amount he received from his “client”.

That, he said, opened the floodgates to his wealth, which now include two three bedroom houses and four cars.

Let it rain
This is the part where pain is quickly forgotten and sudden joy takes over. Most of these young people, after they make their first hit, which usually falls within $50,000 to S100,000, purchase their first car.

Some of them also, as a good sign of showing appreciation, buy laptops for friends who helped them during their “broke days”.

One would also know when a Sakawa boy makes a hit. They paint the whole town red by organising parties.

As usual, most of them spend massively on acquiring new properties, buying expensive cars and chasing women.

The type of car a Sakawa boy drives usually tells how rich he is. Most of them own about three cars.

One unique attribute about Sakawa boys is that they would never turn their back on their own, especially when the person is hit by either sickness or death.

Security concerns
The practice has become so intensive that the security services, especially the Ghana Police Service (GPS), over the past years, have launched attacks against the operations of the Sakawa boys.

According to the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tettey Yohonu, the operations of the Sakawa boys continue to tarnish the country’s image.

He said the police had decided to make the activities of the Sakawa boys unattractive by putting down intelligence at the various places to clamp down on their operations.

DCOP Yohonu said a lot of the Internet fraudsters had been arrested and prosecuted over the past years, adding that efforts were being made to root out their operations.
