‘Dumsor’ will soon be “bad nightmare” of the past – Mahama

President John Mahama has given the strongest indication once again that the worsening power crisis bedeviling Ghana will be over in no time.

According to him, the situation which has popularly become known as ‘dumsor’ is temporary and will be a thing of the past.

“Our power supply challenges are temporary and we will soon consider them to be a bad nightmare from which we have awoken,” he noted.

Mahama debunked claims that the power crisis is as a result of lack of money to buy light crude oil to power plants.

“Our current challenge is not because we don’t have money to buy crude oil as some people will want us to believe. In our anxiety to see the end of these power challenges you might hear many dates being bandied about… we expect to achieve a complete end to this load management by end of the year,” Mahama told workers at the 2015 May Day parade in Accra.

According to him, power plants at the Aboadze Thermal Plant have been running on light crude oil for the past two weeks due to a shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Plant for maintenance.

He said thermal plants in Tema – with the exception of Asogli – were also running on light crude oil.

The President reiterated his commitment to solving the crisis, saying: “We are working to strategically and permanently fix the generation shortfalls that we are currently experiencing.”

He said Ghana would not manage itself out of the crisis, but would find a lasting solution to it.
