“What’s happening? Who are those guys? Have we been set up?” He was breathing heavily until he narrowed his eyes. “Where’s Doris?”

“We all got parted, we don’t know.”

Craig rushed away, in search of Doris.

“Guys, let’s go!” He heard Chief Sam’s voice and moved forward. He shot again but missed his target. Still moving, he noticed the men had left the scene but Doris was still there. He rushed after them, even though he didn’t know if he was safe or not.

He preferred being in the problem than Doris. He kept hearing footsteps but he never stopped following the sounds he was hearing. It was darker, even if it wasn’t, the canopy trees at the region where he presently was had caused a blackout.

“I hope you have been enjoying yourself?” Prince Edward asked Beatrice, taking a seat beside her.

Beatrice smiled. The scent of the body spray the Prince used refreshed her breath as she looked into his eyes. “I have been, thanks to you.”

“It’s a good thing you’re still in the palace, I thought you’d go earlier than this.”

Suddenly, he heard another shot and a loud groan after. He froze as his mind was thinking of what must have happened. “Doris?” He remembered her and shivered.

He walked forward and dropped Doris. He kicked Chief’s man to know how far with him. He crossed over him and crouched, touching Chief Sam.

He heard his  moan and carried him up, wondering how he would get Doris and the man out of the forest that night. He was at ease for the  and sat down, thinking of what to do. “Till tomorrow.” He surmised with his eyes still wide open.

Craig stared at his mobile phone and left it to continue ringing. He was not comfortable with the call and switched off his mobile phone. Why would she be calling him? He wondered and hissed.

He walked to the bar to have a glass of drink, not ready to pick up any call from her. They had dispersed months back, why would she  want to cause a kerfuffle that night? He wondered and guzzled from the glass

His thought changed suddenly he remembered Doris. He began to wonder if she had gotten Doris already. Who could tell if the ‘ex’ was just calling to get him informed about Doris? He reached for his mobile phone and switched it on quickly.

He dialed her mobile number but this time, hers was switched off too. He hissed and flung the phone away. He prayed Doris would be safe till the following day.

5am.

Nicholas didn’t bat his eyelids throughout the night. He quickly stood up when he checked up what time it was. He noticed that Doris too couldn’t sleep, neither the pernicious Chief Sam in question. He brewed that if he waited till the sky got cleared, the officers might meet him at the spot.

He carried Chief Sam and tied him to the  hither available tree. By the way, he didn’t want Doris to see his stature, so, that would be the very best time to vacate the forest.

He carried her and began to walk back. He hoped he would get to know the way back to the ingress of the forest. Soon, he got her out and was troubled with the thought of going back deep inside the forest to get Chief Sam again.

He brought out a rope and tied Doris to the tree, rushing back into the forest to get Chief too.

Craig had gotten out of the bed, preparing to visit the forest for Doris again. He had told other officers they needed to start their ultimate search by 6am that morning.

Soon, he set out planning to get there by 6am. He had been praying for protection over Doris.

Nicholas was very tired. He got Chief Sam out of the forest and placed him by the road side. He was breathing heavily when he saw the head lamp of a vehicle coming near. “This should be Craig.” He thought and entered into his car, speeding away.

That was not important to Craig. He ran down as he saw Doris and untied her. “The Unknown.” Doris said as she pointed to the direction where Nicholas ran through.

“Leave him, we will get him some other time. By the way, what happened? Why are you like this?” He wondered, removing the dirts on her.

“That’s a long story, arrest Chief Sam quickly.” She told him.

“The other men are coming now, let’s wait. Once they arrive, I’ll take you to the hospital for treatment and we would be able to discuss very well after.” He smiled.

“This evil Chief.” Doris muttered as she made her way to lean against Craig’s car.

Craig chuckled. “Don’t worry, he will face the music. But, was it The Unknown that assisted you?”

Doris kept quiet for a while. “Yes.” She finally replied him.

Nicholas retired to the bed, unbuttoning his shirt as he remembered all that happened overnight. He pulled in his lips and sighed. He took off his shirt and quickly got into the bathroom to take a quick shower.

He felt it would be bad of him not to visit Stella before the arrival of Doris. As he got dressed up, he hurried to Stella’s place and knocked for some seconds.

He knocked again, this time he leaned against the wall and waited for Stella to come out. Just some seconds after, Stella rushed out of the house and got the gate. He entered, looking frank as he looked at Stella. “I was busy with the Prince, I’m really sorry I couldn’t return last night.” He said, pulling his trouser upward.

Stella smiled faintly. “That’s not the problem, I understand you and the nature of your job.”

He beamed. “Thanks so much. Has she returned?” He enquired. Both walked side-by-side as they entered into the house. “I told you she was kidnapped. Just planning to visit Craig again so we would go and search for her in the forest.”

“Stella, you really have to be careful. You know she has been taken away by a set of people we don’t know.”

“Even if she was carried away by a demon, I’ll get the demon.” Stella said.

“You will get the demon without leaving the house, right?” He gave a soft chuckle.

“Please Nick, just keep praying for..” Stella’s phone beeped. “They found her!” She exclaimed and ended the call quickly.

Nicholas grinned. Let’s go there now.”

She precipitated into the described hospital, not bothered if she dressed well or not. If she could have left the house the previous night, just to be with her sister, she could have done that. She had it in mind that she wouldn’t let go the forest that day, had it been Doris wasn’t found.

She was beginning to get uncomfortable with her kind of job. She had been antsy to meet her and tell her how nice it would be if she abdicated the job. If she loosed her, she could kill herself too.

Thanks to Nicholas who caught her when she was trying to end her journey after her parents died, and both grappled out. If not, she would have died long ago. She hated it earnestly, seeing her loved one in agony.

That in point of fact made Nicholas visited her as early as he could. Though, he was really tired, he felt two things within himself. If he stalled to visit her, wouldn’t she suspect anything? And, if she didn’t again, wouldn’t she just try to kill herself like the other day?

How would she even suspect him? Doris only was the one meant to be capable of suspecting him. He thought and would shake it off again, what if Doris had told her about the The Unknown and the redolence they both shared? It had been quite a while they visited his place, if not they would have known another secret of him- the vehicle.

Nicholas felt it was alright that way, at least he was menacing his life and could die anytime. He needed not anyone who would discourage him. He was getting eager to lay his hands on Engineer Ashley as soon as he could, but it had been tough to get the scene of meeting the tree on his car outta his mind.

He had been doubting it and had been wondering if the tree just fell on it’s own free will. If it did, wouldn’t it have damaged his vehicle? At least if not bad, a little. He couldn’t let his thoughts slip away till the two settled down at the reception.

Just some minutes after their arrival, Craig walked out of the Doctor’s office to meet the silent two, who had been fighting with their thoughts. “How’s it? How’s she?” Craig rushed up as he sighted him first.

Craig chuckled. “We thank God, she’s alright.” He replied as he tapped Stella’s shoulder. She had also rushed up on seeing Nicholas’ reaction. “Can’t we just go in and see her?” Stella enquired from him.

“Hmmn..” he giggled. “You should be. Let’s go to the ward.” He said and turned around.

His turn made his eyes strike that of Nancy; Chief Sam’s Secretary and Craig halted. He stared at her and the act made Nicholas look the direction too and saw her. Is she here because of me? He wondered as he looked at her continuously.

He cleared his throat as he began to speak to himself. It seemed she didn’t come for him, he was wrong. She knows Craig too? He wondered as he stared at the two, staring at each other.

“Hey Craig!” Nancy waved from where she was.

Stella felt she was lost, Nicholas felt he was too, but not totally. The intense of seeing her sister sprung up in Stella and tapped Craig.

“What’s happening? Let’s go.” She said.

Craig turned around and looked at the nurse. “Nurse, please could you please help with the description of my patient’s ward?” He enquired and raised his brows at Stella. “Go and meet her, please, I have something to sort out with that lady.” He told her.

So they know each other. By the way, why’s she acting as if she doesn’t know me? And, what’s even her relationship with him? Nicholas was lost in thought until the bash from Stella brought him back to his senses.

“What’s happening to you also? Let’s go.”

Has the nurse described the ward? It’s because of this Nancy that I didn’t hear everything. Only God knows what she came for. He hissed silently and followed Stella as he hardly took his eyes off her.

Nancy just kept smiling. “Craig, how are you?” She asked again as Craig approached her.

He stood before her and pressed his lips together. He nodded after and pulled her, going outside.

“What are you here for?” He enquired.

Nancy chuckled. “What else? Why didn’t you pick up my calls yesterday? We broke up, does it mean that should be the end of our normal daily friendship?”

Craig shrugged. “Since we broke up, you never called me. I was just in a tight corner yesterday, because it looked suspicious. That’s all.”

She laughed. “Tight corner? I know you, what tight corner?”

“You know I don’t joke with my work, I was busy.”

“Busy or drinking?”

Craig jacked his head up and threw a gaze at her. How did she know all I was doing? I don’t trust this girl, has she been trailing me or what? “Drinking? Why would I drink?”

“You have a bar in your house and there are different types of wines there. Who knows if you just sat down and took Hennessey made in Spain because it tastes better?”

He masked his shock well as he moved closer to her. “You have been interposing with my personal life, haven’t you?”

“No need to shrill at me. The little time we spent together, I got to know more of you. If only Doris didn’t steal you away from me, but, I have a better man now.”

“It’ll be better for you to stick to your better man and mind your business!” He shouted and walked inside the hospital.

Nancy laughed
