The ordeal with Van has me drained, tensed and extremely frustrated. I expected I’ll come into my house and kiss my pillow goodnight.
Instead, I find my boss in my living room. I made a mental note to upgrade the security in my home to prevent any more break-ins from certain billionaires.
I shake my head slightly realising I had been staring at him without uttering a word. I think I’m waiting for him to make the first move or something. I’m obviously not ready.
“Aren’t you going to ask why I’m here or how I got in?”
“I’ll go with why you’re here. Suffice to say, I’m used to having surprise guests.”
He arched his brows but doesn’t ask any further questions.
“I’ve been thinking about somethings for a while now. Made research and all. My curiosity is piqued so I decided to go straight to the source.”
“What do you mean Sir?”
“What relationship do you have with Van Mikeslson?”
He asks plainly, the air stops flowing and I suddenly feel caged in.
“Huh?”
“From the first time you two met or the first time I saw you two meet, it was obvious something was amiss. Like some untold story or something. I tried doing some digging but that would definately take a while. I figured I’ll just ask you so, how do you two know each other.”
I’m unable to maintain eye contact with him.
“Mr O’Cornner…”
I trail off not knowing how to begin.
“We’re not in the office Elena. Call me Damon.”
He requests and I sigh before acknowledgement.
“Alright… Damon.”
I state and earn an approving look from him. I’ll have to choose my next words very carefully. Very carefully. I knew he was looking into us. Just didn’t realise it was getting this serious. Damon can’t find out. It would be too weird not to mention extremely embarrassing to explain. I can’t lie to him and risk letting him find out the truth himself.
I can’t also tell him the truth because well, I can’t tell him. The only thing left to do would be to think outside the box and do something Damon won’t expect.
I thought about all the terrible things that happened to me right from day one and just as expected, I felt hot tears stream down my cheeks. seconds later, I was sobbing.
Damon’s demeanor changed and he rushed to my side. Just like I expected.
