RICH MAN, POOR BURIAL

WHEN THE RICH MAN  WAS GIVEN A POOR BURIAL:

Mr. Asante worked very hard in His entire life and was able to accumulate and amass wealth. He had invested heavily in His children education and that of other family members. He had also invested in other profitable ventures. He was indeed one of the richest men during His era.
He planned His life very well even up to the point of His death and burial. In his WILL, he never apportioned anything to any of His children or His extended family members. The only thing He stated in His WILL was, ‘GIVE ME A POOR BURIAL WHEN I DIE’. He further went ahead and warned His children or ‘Abusuapayin’ not to spend more than His basic salary which was GHC 1800.00 during His burial. He again warned that no one should give anything as contribution in the course of the funeral. The extended family didn’t see an eye to this arrangement as enshrined in the WILL. Since Mr. Asante had wealthy friends, the family thought they could capitalize on Mr. Asante’s death to become rich. True to Mr. Asante’s words, His children took to His words not to spend lavishly during His burial. Things like, posters, hand books, ‘flexy banners’, food, expensive coffins and other items were quashed. His children were able to give their daddy that poor burial He wanted.

THE AFTERMATH OF THE BURIAL:
The aftermath of the burial became the talking point in the whole town. People castigated insults on His children and the family at large. They didn’t understand why such a rich man will be given such a poor burial. This didn’t go down well with the head of the family who also ‘rebuked’ the children for bringing such a shame to the family. The burial and final funeral rite of Mr. Asante was ranked as the worst burial rite to be performed in the community. The family therefore became known for their selfish and stingy nature.

THE REVELATION:
Mr. Asante had ordered His Lawyer not to read the entire WILL until the end of His burial. The last paragraph of the WILL read ‘USE ALL THE MONEY I LEFT BEHIND TO ESTABLISH A WORLD CLASS COMPANY TO EMPLOY ALL THE UNEMPLOYED IN THE COMMUNITY’.
As ordered by their father, the children established the said company. Over 1000 youth in the community were employed in the company and were properly paid. It was during the inauguration of the company that, the elderly Son told the community members the rationale behind why his dad had a POOR BURIAL.

MORAL LESSONS:
Most people amass and create wealth only for those wealth to be burried alongside their ‘owners’. We spend soo much on funeral to the extent that, we forget that, there is a poor but brilliant student in the family that needs help. Most families even go to the extent of taking loans to bury their loved ones.
One thing that remains the truth is, WHAT IS SPOILT IS SPOILT and no amount of ‘superflousity’ will bring it back.
LET US SAY NO TO EXPENSIVE FUNERALS AND LET US SAVE THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY!

Let’s renew our minds and be agents of change!

Watch out for ‘THE RICHEST WEDDING, THE SHORTEST MARRIAGE’.
