PICTURES – Team Ghana arrives at Rio Olympic Village

Sixteen athletes are ready to reprsent Ghana at the Olympic Games Rio 2016.

The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has announced a 16-member contingent to represent Ghana at Rio 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio, Brazil, from 5th 21st August. According to GOC, Ghana will present 16 first time Olympians at the games, which has officially been named as ‘Games of the XXXI Olympiad’.
Ghana’s contingent will comprise 11 track and field athletes, two swimmers, one weightlifter, one judoka and one boxer, Abdul Wahid Omar, who was one of Ghana’s two bronze medallists at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The track and field team comprises six individual qualifiers: Flings Owusu-Agyapong (100m), Janet Amponsah (200m), John Ampomah (Javelin), Emmanuel Dasor (200m), Alex Amankwah (800m), and Sean Safo-Antwi (100m) and the 15th-placed women’s 4x100m relay team to be selected from Gemma Acheampong, Beatrice Gyaman, Dorcas Gyimah, Persis William-Mensah and Akua Obeng-Akrofi.
The rest of the athletes to make up the 16 contingent team are: Kaya Forson and Abeiku Jackson (Swimming), Christian Amoah (Weightlifting), Szandra Szogedi (Judo) and Abdul Wahid Omar (Boxing)
