I don’t really know the agreement between them, but Jojo is way too wicked to pay back Efua this way. I just can’t believe it.

I began thinking of what to do to help Efua out. I can’t allow this to happen. No, not when I am still alive. The only person I could think of was my father who I don’t really get along with.  Maybe I could use Shela to help me convince him since she trust her more than anything in the world.  I just met him, and I doubt if he will believe this story of mine if I should meet him alone.

Efua looked very depressed by the claims of Jojo now. She has been placed in a position that she had no time to think or even figure things out. Jojo somehow knew her very well, and can easily intimidate her. Their conversation however kept on going.

I don’t know what came over Efua, she just went down on her knees since she couldn’t take it any longer. She went on her knees and held Jojo.

“Jojo, I don’t know why you are doing this to me, but it’s because of Obinim, then you’re completely wrong. I do love him. There is no doubt about that. But my love for him has nothing to do with you. I don’t love him because I want to punish you or something.” Efua said still shedding tears.

I wished that I could just barge in now and console her. She does not deserve what she was going through.   But I needed to respect her decision and trust that she will be able to fight this battle on her own.

“Enough of your love poems. I’m done listening to any of them. Because of you and the debt you created, I had to force myself into marrying that girl, just for me to get her dad to pay for this loan. I could have used the money for something else. But hey I’m now here and like I said, you have only 24 hours left or …..” Jojo said.

“Or what Jojo, Or what” Efua said and got up from her knees, She looked fed up with all the demands Jojo was making.

“I have enough of this. Look the 24hours is more than enough, you have the house documents now right. Keep it. The house is yours for all I care. You can have it. Oh you want my cars too. There is the keys, have them.” She said and threw the keys at him.

“Have everything you want, go on take them.” She said. I have never seen this rage in her eyes before.  She was really angry.

“Wow, I just woke up the beast in you. Haha lady, chill up, your days are numbered dear one” Jojo deliberately mocked her.

That broke Efua down completely. This is what life had in stock for her. Pain, torture and even till her last days she had no reason to smile.

She just gave up and sat on the floor and wept bitterly.  Jojo came closer to her, held her by the face and looked straight into her eyes.

“Efua, I know you will see me as the wicked one, but this is life for you, Its called the survival of the fittest. The one strong ones always win. I have always wanted to tell you this but I guess this may be the last time I will  see you  so I might as well say it now.  You see, that thing you call love, I have never been in love before. As a matter of fact I don’t believe it. To me you were just a doctor. You are just a lady like all the rest….” Jojo said.

“Get out, Get out” Efua shouted out.  That was enough, I had to go in now. It was clear that Efua didn’t want to talk to him now. Just as at when I decided to go in. That was when Shela called me on phone.

I quickly picked just to tell her that I call her back but something else had happen. Something really terrible.

“Obi where are you? Where ever you are now, you need to come over immediately” She said. I could tell that she was crying from the way she spoke to me on the phone.

“What is it, Shela. Are you ok” I asked.

“It’s Dad, Obi. He just slipped and fell and now he is not moving” Shela said.

“What? I couldn’t believe it.  Why is this happening now? I had to go there now.
I left the balcony back into the living room where Jojo and Efua were. Jojo had already left by the time I hanged up the phone.

There Efua was, still sitting on the floor with her back leaning against the sofa, still weeping. Now I was in a dilemma, I can’t also leave her like this. I helped her up and decided to walk her to her room so she could get some rest. At least that will give me enough time to go and check on my dad.

Just when I helped her up, after some few steps, Efua just fell down to the floor.  There she was completely motionless.

“This can’t be her time God, God listen to me. Efua, Efua, get up” I prayed and tried waking her up.

I rushed to the kitchen, got some water, splash it on her face but she wasn’t responding.
